In this issue...

In this issue we have reports from seven of the subject gateways, namely ADAM, EEVL, History, NOVAGate, OMNI, ROUTES and SOSIG. Of these, ROUTES and NOVAGate are under development, but are of great interest to the community - ROUTES is a course-based gateway, while NOVAGate is being built by a consortium from several different European countries.

As a regular feature, we also have an update on the ROADS software release, and the regular UKOLN Corner, where ROADS developments at UKOLN are publicised. Our focus on gateways in this issue takes a brief look at a few subject gateways in the field of agriculture (no pun intended).

Two articles of interest from outside the usual ANR (eLib Access to Network Resources) sphere in this issue are written by Alan Dawson from BUBL, and Charlotte Jenkins, from the SEED centre at Wolverhampton. In the former of these, Alan looks at a new service offered by BUBL, which allows people to get a restricted list of quality resources by browsing via subject and keyword selection. Charlotte, in the first of a regular column for the newsletter on matters subject gateway, introduces her work in automatic classifation; if you are attending the WWW conference in Brisbane, say hello!
